Using closed questions

Closed questions have the following characteristics:
  • They give you facts.
  • They are easy to answer.
  • They are quick to answer.
  • They keep control of the conversation with the questioner.

Open questions :

'An open question is likely to receive a long answer.'

Using open questions

  • They will give you opinions and feelings.
  • They hand control of the conversation to the respondent.

Our target audience is going to be the ages between 15 and 20+. We have decided to do this because folk music is listened to all ages, older and younger people not just teenagers. For the questionnaire we have asked a range of ages such as 15 and early 40s. I wanted a varity of ages to answer the questions.

Questionnaire Brainstorm

Preparing ourselves for the questions that we are going to ask our target audience.
We want to know as much information to make them happy when we create our music promo. By creating this brainstorm of ideas, it will give us a plan and idea for the questions they we are going to ask the target audience for folk and soul music as well as acoustic.

Sound of the Sirens - lyrics analyse

Analysing our bands lyrics made us think deeper into our song and what exactly the lyrics are stating in the song. We ascertained that the song is all about jealousy. The repetition of the chorus, 6 times through out the song suggest that she/they are praying to get the message across that she/they are trying save the relationship and their partner is making it hard for her/they to do so.

Ed Sheeran - Analyse

You Need Me, I Don't Need You

Now Im in town, break it down, thinking of making a new sound
Playing a different show every night in front of a new crowd
Thats you now, ciao, seems that life is great now
See me lose focus, as I sing to you loud
And I cant, no, I wont hush
Ill say the words that make you blush
Im gonna sing this now (ow, ow)

See, Im true, my songs are where my heart is
Im like glue, I stick to other artists
Im not you, now that would be disastrous
Let me sing and do my thing and move to greener pastures
See, Im real, I do it all, its all me
Im not fake, dont ever call me lazy
I wont stay put, give me the chance to be free
Suffolk sadly seems to sort of suffocate me
Cause you need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you ( i don't)
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you (i don't)
You need me
I sing and write my own tune and I write my own verse
Hell, don't need another word-smith to make my tune sell
Call yourself a singer-writer youre just bluffing
Your names on the credits and you didnt write nothing
I sing fast, I know that all my shits cool
I will blast and I didnt go to Brit School
I came fast with the way I act, right
I cant last if Im smoking on a crack pipe
And I wont be a product of my genre
My mind will always be stronger than my songs are
Never believe the bullshit that fake guys feed to ya
Always read the stories that you hear on Wikipedia
And musically Im demonstrating
When I perform live, feels like I am meditating
Times at the Enterprise when some fella filmed me
A young singer-writer like Gabriella Cilmi
Cause you need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you, (i don't)
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you, (i don't)
You need me
Cause with the lyrics Ill be aiming it right
I wont stop till my name's in lights
At stadium heights with Damien Rice
On red carpets, now Im on Arabian Nights
Because Im young and all my brother's gonna give me advice
Long nighter, short height and I gone hyper
Never be anything but a singer-songwriter
The game's over but now Im on a new level
Watch how I step on the track without a loop pedal
People think that Im bound to blow up
Ive done around about a thousand shows
But I havent got a house plus I live on the couch
So you can be the lyrics when Im singing them out
(Wow)
From day one, Ive been prepared
With vo5 wax for my ginger hair
So now Im back to the sofa, giving a dose of what the future holds
Cause its another day
Plus I'll keep my last name forever keep the genre pretty basic
Gonna be breaking into other peoples tunes when I chase it
And replace it with the elephant in the room with a facelift
Into another rappers shoes using new laces
Selling CD's from my rucksack aiming for the papers
Selling CD's from my rucksack aiming for the majors
Nationwide tour with just jack, still had to get the bus back
Clean cut kid without a razor for the mustache
I hit back when the pen hurts me
Im still a quiet boy in a Fenchurch tee
Im still the same as a year ago
But more people hear me though
According to the MySpace and YouTube videos
Im always doing shows if Im not Im in the studio
Truly broke, never growing up call me Ruffio
Melody music maker
Reading all the papers
They say Im up and coming like I'm fucking in an elevator .
Cause you need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you, (i don't)
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you, (i don't)
You need me, man, I dont need you

Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran

A wide variety of shots are expected in a music promo, shots of instruments are shown to try to show/convince the viewer that the artist is skilled in his or her craft, as well as giving an idea of the genre being performed, giving a better idea of that particular artists style. As well as shots of instruments, music promo’s tend to use a range of close ups, long shots, establishing shots and mid shots to show either the performer or the narrative, there is no one style of shot that is often seen as any can be used to make an effective promo.

This song was release as a single on Sheeran’s first studio album + which was released on 9th September but the song itself was released before the album came out on the 26th August 2011.
As the start begins, a guitar starts playing and the lighting come up it shows the setting and perhaps give an idea of that the song is going to be about the how they are going to perform in teh video.

Meaning of the song :
'We’re no strangers to Love, You know the rules and so do I' - It seems from that quote that they have both been in love before and seems that it didn't 100% go to plan and they still both would like to get it ago with eachother and start over. Maybe, he knows he has messed up in the past but he would like another chance to set it straight that he could be in love with her.

'I just wanna tell you how I’m feeling' - He just wants to get it off his chest and tell her the truth of his feelings towards her.

'Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, never gonna run around and desert you' - He wants her and the quote says it exctly what he means.

Camera & Lighting :
  1. Starting off with short, quick shots of Astley and a blonde women. This give the audience a quick understanding on what the song is going to be about.
  2. Smiling, dancing give the impress of happiness.
  3. Panning - Showing facial expression and also movement in the shot
  4. The camera never seems to stay still, this is because it all reflects with the lyrics of the song

Editing/Pace :

Costume and make - up :
  1. At the start of the video Rick Astley wear light, pastel colour that could represents his personality and the mood throughout the whole song.
  2. When the set is made up to look like it is in the day time,  the costume that both of them wear are light and make them both stand out but when the lightening changes, it colours of their outfit changes. Astley wear black but still has a cream coat on to show the audience how happy he is with falling in love.
