P!NK - So What Lyrics, Official Video and Why?
OUR CHOSEN MUSIC VIDEO FOR OUR PRELIMINARY VIDEO - A LEVEL
P!NK
"So What"
Na na na na na na na na na na na na [x2]
I guess I just lost my husband,
I don't know where he went,
So I'm gonna drink my money,
I'm not gonna pay his rent,
I got a brand new attitude and
I'm gonna wear it tonight,
I wanna get in trouble,
I wanna start a fight,
na na na na na na na I wanna start a fight,
na na na na na na na I wanna start a fight.
So, so what
I'm still a rock star,
I got my rock moves,
And I don't need you,
And guess what,
I'm having more fun,
And now that we’re done,
I'm gonna show you tonight,
I'm alright,
I'm just fine,
And you're a tool,
So, so what,
I am a rock star,
I got my rock moves,
And I don't want you tonight.
(Uh check my flow, aw)
The waiter just took my table,
And gave it to Jessica Simps (shit!),
I guess I'll go sit with drum boy,
At least he'll know how to hit,
What if this song's on the radio,
then somebody's gonna die,
I'm gonna get in trouble,
My ex will start a fight,
na na na na na na na he's gonna start a fight,
na na na na na na na we're all gonna get in a fight!
So, so what
I'm still a rock star,
I got my rock moves,
And I don't need you,
And guess what,
I'm having more fun,
And now that we’re done,
I'm gonna show you tonight,
I'm alright,
I'm just fine,
And you're a tool,
So, so what,
I am a rock star,
I got my rock moves,
And I don't want you tonight
You weren't there,
You never were,
You want it all,
But that's not fair,
I gave you life,
I gave my all,
You weren't there,
You let me fall.
So, so what
I'm still a rock star,
I got my rock moves,
And I don't need you,
And guess what,
I'm having more fun,
And now that we’re done,
I'm gonna show you tonight,
I'm alright,
I'm just fine,
And you're a tool,
So, so what,
I am a rock star,
I got my rock moves,
And I don't want you tonight
No, no, no, no
I don't want you tonight,
You weren't there,
I'm gonna show you tonight,
I'm alright,
And you're a tool,
And your a tool,
So, so what,
I am a rock star,
I got my rock moves,
And I don't want you tonight!
WHY DID WE CHOOSE P!NK's song, SO WHAT FOR OUR PRELIM VIDEO?
There were so many opinions we had for our prelim music video. After some time researching 3 of our own favourite artists and genres, we then narrowed them down to one each then looked further into the meaning of each song. In the end we chose P!nk because we felt that she always tells the truth through her music along with a huge attitude. This help with her genre of music, pop punk and also helps her stand out from most artists.
The next steps was to pick a song from her playlist. We chose 'So What' because its loud, honest and fun. I think we took a risk with doing this since we decide to use different children's cartoon films to illustrate the lyrics that P!nk was saying. The great thing about using different elements the children's cartoon is the variety of shots that what got throughout our promo. From panning to close-up to the Ken Burn effect. This all helped created interest for our target audience.
Another element that we enjoyed this single is the pace of the song. It's not slow and perhaps boring neither so fast where the audience may not understand the song nor the story that is being portrayed
Overall, we used P!nk's single, So What because it tells a true story along with still being fun, energetic and puts her story across.

Conventions of music promos
Concepts in Music Promos – similar in adverts
AMPLIFICATION - the promo
uses a key idea / image from the lyrics and develops it.
DISJUNCTURE – the promo
bears no resemblance to the lyrics or its meaning; often seen as unconventional / ‘arty’ videos.

Different Types of Music Videos
The video above is from Blink 182 and the song is about a guy that is afraid of messing up on his date, so he takes all possible precautions and wants more time so he can get ready than he already is for his first date with this girl.
Excited 'just can't wait to pick you up on our very first date'
Nervous &Anxious 'is it cool if I hold your hand' & 'would you guess that I didn't know what to wear'
The video tells a story about a average guy's different emotions before his first date. However, in my opinion, I don't think that the lyrics link in very well with the video. This is because the lyrics say how nervous but excited he is for his first date yet the video has women wearing their bikinis and this suggests that they aren't focusing on that one girl, but many. The video just shows the boys in the band enjoying their lives not showing how they feel.
Perhaps the video has a different meaning behind the lyrics and want the audience to have their own opinion on it.
The original music video for Ed Sheeran's Lego House is pretty good in the way that it has been put together especially because Ed Sheeran actually isn't in it until 3:31 into the video. The actor, Rupert Grint plays the obsessive stalker who love Sheeran that much that he wants to be like him.
The person who animated the video, Dylan Woodley, has really cleverly put this together because the lego version is so precise to the original video. The video itself is impressive.
This video has over 4 500 000views on YouTube and over 60 000 likes - IT'S A HIT!
The video above is from Junior Senior called 'Meet Your Feet' and it is all about having fun and uniting with people. Getting together and having a good time. It is very different to most video that people see but then again it stands out from other video as would and it is well recognised to the public as it has over 4 500 000 views on YouTube.
Using paint or some sort of animation to shoot a video perhaps suggest a sense of childishness. Also, since the character are all cartoon figures this also backs up my point of being child like and perhaps for the child audience. However, you could look at another side to the video and say how fun and upbeat it is for the audience to view.

Intertextuality
Intertextuality
References (visual, mise-en-scene, camerawork...) to media texts - e.g. TV programmes, films, adverts...
Idea/images borrowed and repackaged from their texts
Can be used for humorous of serious effect
Privileges part of the audience - they're 'in on the joke' - but text can still be understood by others unaware of intertextual references.
Theory
John Stuart believes the music promo 'incorporates, raids and reconstructs'
Julia Kristeva 'any text is the absorption and transformation of another'
Research and explain the intertextual links.
Which text had been used? Why?
Even from the beginning, one of Madonna's influences was Marilyn Monroe:
Before Madonna even got popular with her music, she looked up to to Monroe. Monroe was stunning, popular and talented so of course Madonna wanted to be like her.
In Madonna's video, 'Material Girl', the audience can obviously see that she has copied what Monroe was wearing in her video 'Gentleman Prefer Blondes'.
Also, both videos include the female being touched and looked at by several man suggesting that Madonna looked up to Marilyn Monroe and wanted to be like her and to live her lifestyle.
MARILYN & MADONNA
The picture above shows Marilyn and Madonna in pretty much the same hair, body language, pose, clothing and make-up. This also help suggest that Madonna was inspired by Marliyn Monroe and wanted to keep that particular look alive.
These stills above show the similarities between Monroe and Madonna and also shows how much Madonna look up and made Marilyn her role model and idol.
In other view, looking at these still perhaps Madonna wanted to keep Monroe in the limelight by keeping her image in the public eye so she will never be forgotten.
