Ideas for the music video

Ideas

1st basic idea that we have all agreed on.
  • A young couple have just moved into their first house together
  • Everything is on edge, both unsure about the relationship but are too afraid to say anything because they might loose each other
  • But surely if you aren't happy with something, you would do something about it, or would you?
  • The concept of the film 'Narnia'
    -  A wooden wardrobe which leads to another world where she is free from her relationship and the drama within it with her partner.
Starting the video
  • Pictures of a happy couple flashing on the screen
  • Then the pictures start to have a faster pace the also the pictures start to show anger and perhaps violence.
  • The two bullet points above are explanations of the start of the video that we are going to create and it shows how not all relationships are meant to be and also how things and people change within the relationship especially if the relationship to long term.
  • After the pictures (about 20 seconds in), the pictures are going to come alive and this leads the women to go into the empty room with only a wardrobe in it at the back of the room
  • As soon as she enters, a whoosh of cold wind hits her... something happening
  • She investigates the wardrobe, opens it, steps in and gets claustrophobic (fear of having no escape and being closed in small spaces) and begins to panic
  • Exits from the back and steps out into the fields with loads of colourful flowers.
  • She is not sure about the idea (and she has confused look on her face) and turns around and tries to step back in the wardrobe, feels nothing, turns around, wardrobe has gone.
  • She feels free!
Middle section of the video

  • Music begins 0 - 10 seconds (no lyrics) into the video she runs as fast as she can with a huge grin on her face to show she is happy and feels free from everything.
  • 11 seconds into the song, the singing begins and she instantly stop to a holt and the setting/place changes to the girls singing the first verse of the song.

Inspirations

  • Michael David Rosenberg (Passenger) was born 17th May 1984, age 29 is a British folk-rock singer-songwriter from Brighton, UK.
  • Edward 'Ed ' Christopher Sheeran was born 17th February 1991, age 22. He is an English singer-songwriter from Suffolk, UK.
Passenger with Ed Sheeran

Background information
Name: Gabrielle Aplin
Date of birth : 10 October 1992 (age 20)
From: Wiltshire, England
Genre of music: Folk, country
Her occupation: Singer-songwriter
Instruments: Vocals, Guitar, Piano and also the  Drums
Label: Parlophone, Never Fade Records
Her website: gabrielleaplin.co.uk

Why is she so similar to Sound of the Sirens? (SoftheS)

The main reason why she is so similar to the band is they share the same interest in the genre of music that they play, folk. Creating this video for SoftheS, will be a lot easier if we have amazing, talented inspirations like Gabrielle Aplin. This is because when I look at her videos, the lighting, camera shots, costume and voice all link in so nicely together it makes it so easy and in a way pleasant  to watch because the video is soft and warm.

  • The screen shot above is a brilliant example of how soft the colours are and how light and natural the lighting is.
  • With the plants in the background as well as the neutral colour of the room, I think it gives the effect of trust and possible friendship. I think this because these thing should be related to light, breezy, natural colours not dull, dark and gloomy colours.
  • Another thing that could show peace and comfort is that she is calm and seems gentle with her guitar. Her back is facing the audience so we can't see her identity and facial expressions so perhaps since this is the first shot of the video, she wants to get the idea of the setting and this will link into how the song might go.

Analysis of a Similar Music Promo - Gabrielle Aplin & Fiona Bevan

Gabrielle Aplin

This video made me realise and also gave me inspiration for our music video to represent the band in the best way in terms of their genre and the lyrics. The shots in this video also have gave me ideas about when we make our videp especially the shots with Gabrielle playing the guitar. This is because it shows the lighting and the meaning behind it. It shows how happy and peaceful she is when playing her guitar and thats what we want to portray in our own video.

This song isnt about a love song but it makes me think it has meaning and thats what we want to come ascross in our video. The lyrics are clear and relatable. Even though she has had her car stolen, she has brought herself up and made her life better and she seems more free than she ever was.
At the start of this video it could suggest that she is weak and vulnerble but on the other hand, it could suggest that she is sad and wishing for something else. As the video goes on, the footage and lyrics suggest that she works hard to contine her life and forget the past. 3 and a half minutes into it she looks free and finally enjoying her life.

I love this video.
Its straight to the point with the lyrics and their meaning. The song is obviously about love and relationships but she doesn't want to fall in love because she is scared she'll get hurt and make a mistake and may loose him
At the start of the video, 0 - 37 seconds is setting the scene on her realtionship status with this guy.
The guy in this video shows a bit of jealously and perhaps paranoid so she might have to be extra careful with what she says and how she says it to him.

....................................................................................................................................................................

All three videos are great examples of the way that my group want to protray our video for our music promo. There are great camera shots and shots that we want to show in our video to suggest jealously within relationships.

Don't Let Me Get Me

LYRICS
Never win first place, I don't support the team
I can't take direction, and my socks are never
clean
Teachers dated me, my parents hated me
I was always in a fight cuz I can't do nothin'
right

Everyday I fight a war against the mirror
I can't take the person starin' back at me
I'm a hazard to myself

Don't let me get me
I'm my own worst enemy
Its bad when you annoy yourself
So irritating
Don't wanna be my friend no more
I wanna be somebody else

I wanna be somebody else, yeah

LA told me, "You'll be a pop star,
All you have to change is everything you are."
Tired of being compared to damn Britney Spears
She's so pretty, that just ain't me

Doctor, doctor won't you please prescribe
somethin
A day in the life of someone else?
Cuz I'm a hazard to myself

Don't let me get me
I'm my own worst enemy
Its bad when you annoy yourself
So irritating
Don't wanna be my friend no more
I wanna be somebody else

Don't let me get me
I'm my own worst enemy
Its bad when you annoy yourself
So irritating
Don't wanna be my friend no more
I wanna be somebody else

Doctor, doctor won't you please prescribe
somethin
A day in the life of someone else?
Don't let me get me

Don't let me get me
I'm my own worst enemy
Its bad when you annoy yourself
So irritating
Don't wanna be my friend no more
I wanna be somebody else

What are your opinions about P!nk as an artist?

In my opinion, I love the way Pink presents herself and the way she performers in her videos as well as been live on stage. I feel that i get a buzz from all her songs because I like to think that I can relate to her. She is an individual and loves to show that she's not like anything else.

What do you expect from her videos

In some videos there is half story telling, half performance but with the others its just a story with performaning as a character. For example...

1) Raise You Glass
2) So What
3) Funhouse

Who are the audience?

Teenagers, girls who can relate to the stories.

Sound of the Sirens - lyrics analyse

Analysing our bands lyrics made us think deeper into our song and what exactly the lyrics are stating in the song. We ascertained that the song is all about jealousy. The repetition of the chorus, 6 times through out the song suggest that she/they are praying to get the message across that she/they are trying save the relationship and their partner is making it hard for her/they to do so.

Ed Sheeran - Analyse

You Need Me, I Don't Need You

Now Im in town, break it down, thinking of making a new sound
Playing a different show every night in front of a new crowd
Thats you now, ciao, seems that life is great now
See me lose focus, as I sing to you loud
And I cant, no, I wont hush
Ill say the words that make you blush
Im gonna sing this now (ow, ow)

See, Im true, my songs are where my heart is
Im like glue, I stick to other artists
Im not you, now that would be disastrous
Let me sing and do my thing and move to greener pastures
See, Im real, I do it all, its all me
Im not fake, dont ever call me lazy
I wont stay put, give me the chance to be free
Suffolk sadly seems to sort of suffocate me
Cause you need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you ( i don't)
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you (i don't)
You need me
I sing and write my own tune and I write my own verse
Hell, don't need another word-smith to make my tune sell
Call yourself a singer-writer youre just bluffing
Your names on the credits and you didnt write nothing
I sing fast, I know that all my shits cool
I will blast and I didnt go to Brit School
I came fast with the way I act, right
I cant last if Im smoking on a crack pipe
And I wont be a product of my genre
My mind will always be stronger than my songs are
Never believe the bullshit that fake guys feed to ya
Always read the stories that you hear on Wikipedia
And musically Im demonstrating
When I perform live, feels like I am meditating
Times at the Enterprise when some fella filmed me
A young singer-writer like Gabriella Cilmi
Cause you need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you, (i don't)
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you, (i don't)
You need me
Cause with the lyrics Ill be aiming it right
I wont stop till my name's in lights
At stadium heights with Damien Rice
On red carpets, now Im on Arabian Nights
Because Im young and all my brother's gonna give me advice
Long nighter, short height and I gone hyper
Never be anything but a singer-songwriter
The game's over but now Im on a new level
Watch how I step on the track without a loop pedal
People think that Im bound to blow up
Ive done around about a thousand shows
But I havent got a house plus I live on the couch
So you can be the lyrics when Im singing them out
(Wow)
From day one, Ive been prepared
With vo5 wax for my ginger hair
So now Im back to the sofa, giving a dose of what the future holds
Cause its another day
Plus I'll keep my last name forever keep the genre pretty basic
Gonna be breaking into other peoples tunes when I chase it
And replace it with the elephant in the room with a facelift
Into another rappers shoes using new laces
Selling CD's from my rucksack aiming for the papers
Selling CD's from my rucksack aiming for the majors
Nationwide tour with just jack, still had to get the bus back
Clean cut kid without a razor for the mustache
I hit back when the pen hurts me
Im still a quiet boy in a Fenchurch tee
Im still the same as a year ago
But more people hear me though
According to the MySpace and YouTube videos
Im always doing shows if Im not Im in the studio
Truly broke, never growing up call me Ruffio
Melody music maker
Reading all the papers
They say Im up and coming like I'm fucking in an elevator .
Cause you need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you, (i don't)
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you
You need me, man, I dont need you, (i don't)
You need me, man, I dont need you

Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran

A wide variety of shots are expected in a music promo, shots of instruments are shown to try to show/convince the viewer that the artist is skilled in his or her craft, as well as giving an idea of the genre being performed, giving a better idea of that particular artists style. As well as shots of instruments, music promo’s tend to use a range of close ups, long shots, establishing shots and mid shots to show either the performer or the narrative, there is no one style of shot that is often seen as any can be used to make an effective promo.

This song was release as a single on Sheeran’s first studio album + which was released on 9th September but the song itself was released before the album came out on the 26th August 2011.
As the start begins, a guitar starts playing and the lighting come up it shows the setting and perhaps give an idea of that the song is going to be about the how they are going to perform in teh video.

Sound of the Sirens - Genre

2 girls, 2 guitars

Their music may be heavily influenced by folk, but their vocal interplay takes its cue from the soul stylings of superstars Destiny's Child and En Vogue.

Main genre: Acoustic

Music influence: Mumford and Sons, Bombay Bicycle club and of course, Destiny's Child

Different genres

Meaning of the song :
'We’re no strangers to Love, You know the rules and so do I' - It seems from that quote that they have both been in love before and seems that it didn't 100% go to plan and they still both would like to get it ago with eachother and start over. Maybe, he knows he has messed up in the past but he would like another chance to set it straight that he could be in love with her.

'I just wanna tell you how I’m feeling' - He just wants to get it off his chest and tell her the truth of his feelings towards her.

'Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, never gonna run around and desert you' - He wants her and the quote says it exctly what he means.

Camera & Lighting :
  1. Starting off with short, quick shots of Astley and a blonde women. This give the audience a quick understanding on what the song is going to be about.
  2. Smiling, dancing give the impress of happiness.
  3. Panning - Showing facial expression and also movement in the shot
  4. The camera never seems to stay still, this is because it all reflects with the lyrics of the song

Editing/Pace :

Costume and make - up :
  1. At the start of the video Rick Astley wear light, pastel colour that could represents his personality and the mood throughout the whole song.
  2. When the set is made up to look like it is in the day time,  the costume that both of them wear are light and make them both stand out but when the lightening changes, it colours of their outfit changes. Astley wear black but still has a cream coat on to show the audience how happy he is with falling in love.
